A conventional image recording apparatus such as a printer, a copy machine, or the like performs positioning of an image recording head using a step motor (hereinafter, referred to as a step motor) and a stepping motor for positioning. In the case of positioning using a step motor, it is known that a motion of the step motor is relatively coarse. In the case of positioning using a stepping motor, it is known that a highly accurate motion can be performed with respect to a positioning target. For example, a rotation positioning method using a cam and a rotation positioning method using a positioning rod are known.
In the case of performing positioning using a step motor, a step pulse corresponding to a predetermined rotation angle is output, and the step motor is rotated according to the step pulse, whereby the image recording head is positioned. In the case of performing positioning using a stepping motor, the output of a stepping pulse is used, and the stepping motor is rotated, whereby the image recording head is positioned.
In addition, Japanese Laid-Open Patent Publication No. 9-81914 discloses a positioning device which uses a combination of a step motor and a positioning rod for performing positioning.
FIGS. 11A and 11B show a configuration of a conventional positioning device which uses a step motor and a positioning rod.
A positioning arm 12 is formed integrally with a stepping motor 11, and a positioning stopper 13 is attached to the tip of the positioning arm 12. The positioning stopper 13 is formed into a cylindrical shape which is wider than the diameter of a be359ba680
